Donna Oliver & her husband, Hurley, are longtime bowling enthusiasts with 25+ years of experience working in the industry – having met at the original Interstate Bowling Center in 2000. When the owner of Sparetime Recreation and Ground Round Sports Grille in Hallowell decided he wanted to retire, Donna was the perfect fit to take over the business. She saw ownership as the natural progression from her role as manager and longtime employee.
For help navigating this transition, Donna reached out for guidance from the Maine Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Donna worked with Business Advisors Christina Ramdell and Raynor Large. They assisted her in crafting a comprehensive business plan and accompanying financial projections. While she continued to manage the business full-time, Donna navigated the complexities of obtaining financing.
Interstate Bowling & Town Line Sports Grille provides a safe space for the community to have fun and enjoy good food & bowling. The business boasts 24 bowling lanes, an arcade, and a restaurant. They offer bowling parties and glow-in-the-dark bowling for casual bowlers, and leagues and tournaments for competitive bowlers. Something for everyone!
As Donna embarks on her journey as a business owner, the future looks bright. She plans to continue growing Interstate Bowling Center & Town Line Sports Grille. She wants the businesses to remain a cornerstone of the community, fostering connections and memories. As she reflects on the transition process, she encourages other entrepreneurs to utilize the SBDC noting, “The resources available to you are right at our fingertips with SBDC.”
