Chelsie Crane discovered her true calling amidst pages of textbooks when completing her MBA. Driven by her belief that investing and good financial health shouldn’t be reserved for the elite, Chelsie embarked on a journey through the male-dominated field of financial advisory services. A native Mainer and mother of three, she wanted to start her own business to help individuals and families in their pursuit of financial independence.

Referred by a friend, Chelsie connected with Maine SBDC at CEI Business Advisor Ali Lane to help plan and launch her business. Chelsie and Ali worked together to form a legal entity, find efficiencies in business operations, set realistic goals, and establish a marketing strategy. Most importantly, with Ali by her side for support, Chelsie worked to build confidence.

Chelsie launched Crosswind Investments, A Member of Advisory Services, LLC in January. Crosswind Investments provides a holistic and human approach to investments, retirement planning, and wealth management. Chelsie loves helping people and finding creative solutions that meet the individualistic needs of her clients.

In addition to managing her new business, Chelsie is heavily involved in the community as a member of Tuesday Forum, a women’s networking group where she previously served as President, and as a recurring columnist for Maine Women’s Magazine. Being self-employed also gives her control over her schedule. She can balance her young family and other passions, which include gardening and general aviation.

Chelsie emphasizes the value of the SBDC’s webinars and advising in her entrepreneurial journey. She comments, “I have recommended SBDC to many folks after using the service. I tell them that it is a great resource to help give you some direction. Being a business owner, you must wear many hats, and SBDC has helped me figure out a lot of the “how do I do that” piece of things. I am so thankful for Alison and SBDC. I wouldn’t be here today without her help.”
